What is filter coffee?

Filter coffee is one of the world's most popular brewing methods. Here, hot water slowly runs through ground coffee in a paper or metal filter, after which the coffee drips into a pot or cup.

It is a gentle and precise brewing technique that highlights the coffee's natural sweetness, acidity, and aromatic nuances. The brewing method is ideal for quality beans and produces a clear, clean cup of coffee – especially when you choose good filter coffee.

Filter coffee can be brewed in many ways – from the classic coffee machine to manual pour-over methods such as Kalita, Hario V60, or Chemex. Regardless of the method you use, filter coffee allows you to taste all the fine details in the coffee.

Why choose premium filter coffee?

When you choose good filter coffee, you get much more than just a caffeine boost. You get a taste experience with depth, balance, and character. At Copenhagen Coffee Lab, we roast our coffees specifically for filter brewing – typically light roasted – to preserve their natural flavour notes.

We only select high-quality beans with a focus on origin, sustainability, and flavour profile. In your cup, you can experience everything from ripe berries and citrus to caramel, nuts, and dark chocolate – depending on the variety, terroir, and processing.

We roast daily and ship quickly, so you receive your coffee as close to the roast date as possible. This ensures that your filter coffee is always fresh, aromatic, and full of flavour.

Organic and Fairtrade – filter coffee with a conscience

For us, good filter coffee is not just about taste – but also about responsibility. That's why you'll find a wide selection of organic and Fairtrade-certified filter coffee.

Organic coffee is grown without artificial pesticides and fertilizers, which is good for both the environment and the coffee's natural flavor.

Fairtrade means that farmers receive a fair price and better working conditions – and that makes a difference in their communities.

We work exclusively with producers we know and trust – and who share our values of transparency, quality, and respect from farm to cup.

Whole bean or ground filter coffee?

When you order filter coffee from us, you can choose between whole beans and ground coffee – depending on your preferences and brewing equipment. Depending on your preferences and brewing equipment.

Whole beans best preserve the aroma and allow you to grind the coffee just before brewing. If you have a coffee grinder at home, we definitely recommend this option. Ground coffee is ideal for those who want convenience. We grind the coffee to perfectly suit filter coffee – whether you use a Moccamaster, Chemex, or V60.

Are you unsure which type is best for you? You are always welcome to contact us – we are here to help.

How to brew good filter coffee

A good cup of filter coffee starts with fresh beans and the right technique. Unlike espresso brewing, filter coffee does not require high pressure. Here are our general recommendations:

- Use freshly roasted and, if possible, freshly ground coffee
- Use approximately 60 grams of coffee per liter of water
- The water should be between 92-96 °C and preferably filtered
- Choose a medium grind size - similar to coarse sea salt
- Brew with care and precision - especially with manual pour-over methods such as Kalita, V60, or Chemex.

How long do you recommend I use the coffee for?

If your bag remains unopened, the coffee will still taste fine for many months after roasting. Coffee deteriorates as it ages and loses some of its vibrancy. Remember to reseal the bag or use an alternative airtight container.

Resting time is an important aspect of coffee brewing, so be sure to experiment to find out how long you should wait after the roast date. For espresso, we recommend between 1 and 2 weeks of rest; for filter coffee, we can recommend a shorter rest period.
